Adding Products to Proton PIM

This article covers how to add products to Proton PIM individually or in bulk, including required fields, single-product entry, CSV uploads, what happens after upload, and best practices for efficient product onboarding.

Products can be added to Proton PIM either individually or in bulk, depending on the size of your catalog and how much data you’re onboarding. The intention of adding products will initially be to store your existing data and ensure a product record is created for each item.

Required Product Information

At a minimum, Proton PIM requires:

  • Product ID (required)
  • Product Description (required)
  • Category (via Taxonomy)

Providing additional details—such as brand, manufacturer part number, or category—can significantly improve enrichment accuracy.

Option 1: Adding a Single Product

Use single product creation when:

  • Testing the platform
  • Adding a small number of products
  • Making quick updates

How it works:

  1. Navigate to Products → Add Product
  2. Enter available product details
  3. Save the product to send it for enrichment

Once saved, enrichment begins automatically.

Option 2: Bulk Upload via CSV

Bulk CSV upload is ideal for onboarding large catalogs or updating many products at once.

How to upload a CSV:

  1. Go to Products → Bulk Import
  2. Upload your CSV file
  3. Map each column to the appropriate Proton PIM field (e.g., Product ID, Name, Description, Taxonomy Node)
  4. Choose whether to overwrite existing products or skip duplicates
  5. Submit the file for enrichment

What Happens After Upload?

After submission:

  • Products (both original and enriched) are stored in your Products section
  • You can submit products for Enrichment
    • Enrichment progress can be tracked from the Products page

Tips for Best Results

  • Include as much identifying information as possible (brand, MPN, category)
  • Use consistent Product IDs across uploads
  • Review a small batch (& enrich a few, if desired) first before uploading your full catalog
